    Trademark Registration

    Gurus,
Any idea how much it costs and how long it takes?
What is best way to get it done at a reasonable cost?
    Is it worth it?

If you do it yourself, it'll run you a few hundred bucks. Hiring an attorney to do it will obviously cost a bit more.

Usually takes months to hear back after registering. And by "months" I don't mean 1 or 2 or even 3 - I mean 4-6 months.

The key is to know beforehand whether your name can even be trademarked. That's where an attorney's legal advice can come in handy.

Depends where you are getting a trade mark. Usually it will cost in the low thousands. Look up the madrid protocol.

Low thousands? Wow. We registered ours for less than $300. However, if you're using an attorney, which is advised, at least for an initial consultation to get an idea of the landscape, it will be a bit more expensive.

    Yeh $300 for one country.
But like i said the madrid protocol cost's alot but you can be covered in over 65 countries. Usually its about $300 per country but the madrid protocol helps out and makes the process alot easier.

I suppose it all depends on what product the trademark is being used. Often it's not necessary to be afforded protection in every nation. Additionally, it should be noted that a registered trademark is not necessary for trademark protection. Just food for thought.

This is about as watered down as it can get. I think that it's very misleading because it doesn't discuss the fact that you can't trademark anything that you want. It's not like a company name, where all you have to do is make sure no one else is using the name and then you're good. Rather, only certain names can be trademarked. This is why it actually IS a good idea to speak with an attorney before beginning the formal trademark registration process.
