to chat or not to chat...

Hey forum,

(Here is a little tidbit of a potential way to increase sales from traffic on your site.)

I have seen that a goood deal of people are sharing information on what they do and dont do with personal experience and pointers, I am taking this post t share a bit of information of something I thoght pretty interesting that I hadnt considered until just this last month. I would not assume to mention anything until I had done some more footwork on the issue.

Live chat functions. Recently I have had 5 clients ask me in the last year of the general affects of live chat software and services for websites. I was curious, as I assumed they were functional but had NO idea what the difference would really play by the numbers.

I had two of my clients implement the functions and have seen a substantial difference in retained customers.

This of course made sense, the concept of a live chat function on an email will undoubtedly trump a simple email message respnse or quotes system. It allows a sale to be taken into control by the company and allows for the consumers to feel more trusting in a "face" then simply an email. Adding a better sense of self or identity can aalways help.

I have seen a general 27.5% increase to retained traffic (sorry not familiar with jargon, however more customers were seeing the site and actually staying)

The companies had turned around 56% in sales leads over their "email us" contact function.

And all in all sales revenue increased 34% overall. Of course much has to do with their SEO and marketing, as well they do have a good flow of traffic.

I would recomend any web owners to look into the function, it has a great idea behind the function. The customer has a better idea that you care more for human contact, the customer can ask qustions that your site may not have considered and it plays a GREAT role in accountability when placing orders.

All in all it seems to be a win win. I have seen a few site in and out offering similar service, most of them based in china or india of course. But a few caught my attention. Livechat, which is a pretty well known "international" site service. Clickandchat, which has the best cost overall at 20 a pop and 5dollars per user and of course boldchat, which is a pretty great service as far as their customer service goes, but the price is a bit steep at 29 dollars PER user.

Overall I would recomend looking into it for yourself. Personall I would recomend going for clickanndchat. They have a low cost and it makes it safe to assume that its a new site with their alexia rating. As well little overhead so maybe one or two people on staff (unless they are contracting to china). The cost is better and the CS rep was very helpful and offered a trial. (which all do if you can poke at them enough).

So here is the little tid bit of information I personally hav acquired. Take it for what its worth. I could be just some crazy blogger jerk telling everyone how cool I am... or maybe I know what I am doing... who knows, writing here is like writing on a bathroom wall... and the WHOLe world can see it.
