This'll sound really stupid, COD question..

I know this is going to sound really stupid

I'm setting up an on-line retail store for American Sports stuff for UK and European fans. I want to do a pilot for my store so I'm going to order 5 jerseys and sell them. This way I can find out about any extra costs ,taxes, supplies, shippng etc before I begin proper trading.

I have a question about Mail Order. For the pilot, I don't want to set up my payment processor so have decided to only accept cheque and cash to begin with.

How do I go about this? Do they just pay the delivery guy? Does the UK have an equivalent of the US Money order? Do they need a form? Do they just send it in the post?

I think the best way to sell your first five jerseys would be via ebay, then buyers can send a cheque to you, before you post the goods.

Most likely the jerseys you will be selling are fake, however as you are only buying 5, you wont get a great wholesale price. Check out what prices the jerseys all selling for on ebay first, before making the leap.

The cheque could take two months to clear if you pay it in in the US, you won't be able to cash postal orders.

Much easier to use a payment processor.

are you based in the US?

I was under the impression you were EU based. Maybe you would need to rethink my previous suggestion.

    I am UK Based.

There are online retailers who ship to the UK but the shipping is almost the price of the jersey!

Have you calculated the shipping cost from your aree to the furthest desitination in the UK? This would give you an idea as to your shipping costs.

There may be a reason that the other comapnies charge so much for shipping and it could possibly be the same price as the jersey.

My company distributes a product worldwide. I am based in Canada and to ship one of our product withion Canada is the same to ship a box of 12. Another product we only offer in quantities of 2 or more cause the shipping is more than the product. Shipping to the US from Canada is much cheaper...go fiqure.

As far as payment options you could accept International Money Orders or bank transfer. I know here in Canada you can pay online with your debit card right to your bank account.
