Thinking changing my blog layout (again)

Current: Roger Bryan’s Business Blog for Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners

Proposed: Roger Bryan - Business Blog – How To Advice, Videos, and Blog Posts from an Industry Leading Business Consultant

Reasoning: The current layout is not service oriented enough. It still does not direct people to the services that I want to offer. It also does not allow for decent advertising space.

    Any comments?

I gotta say that i really like the proposed layout. At the very least it caught my attention and kept it much longer than the current layout. Its (in my opinion) cleaner and more intuitive. It really puts your services front and center.

I hate it. The top is WAY too crowded. It's hard to tell what the hell's going on up there.

Edit: Maybe "croweded" was the wrong word. I just think that image slider is way too big. Too much padding around everything. General web design rule, is to try to keep all of your key information on the top of the page (on your homepage), so you don't need to scroll down.

Comparing the two to each other, i like the second one. The slider could be smaller...perhaps have some of your blog post titles and snippets displayed just to the right of it if you shortened its width? thatll keep some of your key info up at the top.

Damn.. this is the same mistake I made on my last site. The video takes up 50% of the above the fold space.. kills me! Not sure how to get past that. I like the sharpness of the new design. Would you just completely eliminate that large picture section and then move everything else up?

Overall the menu and the message on top is great as I could actually click on services to get the info required and also your tag line helped understanding what the site is about.

Other than that I agree with the above comment that the slider is just too big. I liked the earlier one with the video.
