The Top 5 Lamest Web Niches For 2008 by A Rude Webmaster

While people have made money with these sites before, it's an uphill battle right from the start. Don't go against the grain by starting a site with any of these 5 lame niches, you will only be in for a world of hurt. Get a dependable niche that targets people who want to spend, create real content and link in products you know these people will buy. Get quality links and natural traffic, then start making sales. It's really that simple.

Without further adieu, I bring you the Top 5 Lamest Web Niches for 2008

    1. Proxy. Everyone and their mother has a proxy site. How do you people still compete in this and actually turn a profit? Proxy is an overly competitive niche, don't expect to earn back any of the money you pay for marketing. Your target market is broke teenage Myspace addicts who would rather surf their Myspace than actually socialize with real people at school.

    2. Making Money Online. A website trying to make money online about teaching others how to make money online is not only really stupid, it's really absurd. Exception: You must be clearing at least a few grand a month to actually have a website like this, or else people will laugh at you. Really.

    3. Arcades. This niche is very similar to Proxy sites. Although it might be fun, hosting stupid cheap flash games on the same arcade template everyone elses uses will not make you one red cent. Most people on your site will be kids who can't afford to pay for and play real games, what makes you think you can make any money advertising anything to them? Find a better idea.

    4. Image Hosting. Although image hosting sites serve a functional purpose, don't expect to make any money with them. These kinds of sites will not only eat up your bandwidth, they are a complete waste of time.

    5. Warez. Do people really still make these sites anymore? I guess so. People too cheap to go out and buy the real game don't have any money to spend in the first place, so don't market to these people. Not only is this kind of site a pain in the ass because it's illegal, finding real advertisers for it will be a pain in the ass unless you like hosting porn ads.

This is the basic scam run by every seminar operator who has ever lived. Send me money to learn how to become financially free! Of course, the only guy becoming financially free is the scam artist. Then in return you get some version of the following: Create a product and sell it for $10 to 100,000 people. Now you're a millionaire! The guru knows this plan well, it's what he used to make HIS millions! It also helps if, like one guy named Tom Vu who used to be a common latenight infomercial guru, you use some of that money to buy a midrange Bayliner, stock it with a dozen rent-a-hos and some fake silver, and then push it as something everybody can have. You don't need to talk like a chipmunk and call it an "exotic immigrant background", but it doesn't hurt.

There should be a top 5 or 10 list for the BEST web niches.

Low competition and high profit potential make for the best niches... You won't see any lists of these anytime soon :P

What do you mean by high profit potential? If you mean selling a lot off something for a marginal profit margin, then there are plenty off opportunities. If you mean selling anything off something with a high profit margin, then I don't even want to know what it is.

I think there's a reason you don't see this list - these sites require "too much work" lol. The reason those other sites are so appealing, and therefore so oversaturate in the niche, is because, relatively speaking, they don't require much time or effort. You get a template, you stick on the web, maybe do some marketing and there's your site.

The really successful sites are the ones that are unique, original, and have stolen hours and hours of your life in content development, site design, marketing, partnership development and advertising.

    Sorry!

High profit potential opportunities which merchant affiliates are usually willing to pay good money for (and you will also notice good click values when it comes to Google Adsense as well - see this tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/Tr...timatorSandbox). Hosting, home mortages, credit cards are a couple, but competiton makes these industries practically not worth it.

Good point, but of course those willing to put the time in reap the benefit of the reward.

Original content + links are two definite must haves. The other stuff you an kind-of wing it.
