    Question The Snuggie (blanket thingy)

By now I'm sure all of you here have seen the infomercial for the Snuggie... If you haven't, save yourself a cheese factor of about 100 and mute the volume when you go to their landing page.

Even though similar products have been around for years, the Snuggie has apparently become a cult icon almost. Whether you love it or hate it (personally, I hate it- Just because it wasn't my idea!), you can't deny the amazing job that they have done marketing this thing.

4,000,000 sold @ $19.95 each... That's almost $80,000,000 in sales! From a freakin infomercial! It is something that I think should give all entrepreneurs hope and motivation. Even in a recession and down economy, Snuggie has sold 4 million units since September! We should never underestimate the power of marketing.

If you punch in some conservative numbers, even at 18%... That still equals over $14,000,000 in net profit! If you visit their landing page, you will see a very clean and crisp sales copy, and an almost perfect layout (colors, fonts, sizes, etc.)... This is one of the best examples that I have ever seen.

Look how easy it is to order a Snuggie without even clicking to go to an order page. They spell out steps 1-3 in nice big boxes at the bottom of the page. It screams, " It is easy to order a Snuggie NOW and get it FAST".

Check it out and let's hear some comments..

Wow snuggletastic. I must buy one for my fiance.

It's a cringe-worthy product, but a perfect sales process. They show examples of all ages, and both genders using it. The message is that there is no one in the world who wouldn't want one.

Clearly the web page is a giant, perfectly-formed, funnel/landing page for those arriving after seeing the infomercial.

    My opinion?

Don't buy me one for my birthday (it won't be appreciated!), but yep... it's genius.
Wishing you great success in your business,

    Andrea

Ugh...what an awful awful product, but so damn catchy.

perfect for a gag gift...4million gag gifts, but genius. I admire whoever came up with it and for going through with it.

I have an idea for some pretty infomercial worthy things. I looking for a prototype maker for my cheapest idea right now. Last one hasnt followed up with my first email.

Yes Romane, I'm positive that those numbers are correct... I know, it's staggering! Almost $80,000,000 in sales from an infomercial! I don't like the product, but their sales and marketing efforts are top notch.

Exactly Inglesa! They make the transaction effortless.

I really like the step 1, step 2, step 3 boxes at the bottom of the page (for ordering).
So much so, that I am going to implement the same idea on one of my upcoming sites!

P.S. I'm currently writing a new article on how to generate instant cash flow... Even if you don't own a business yet, I will be sharing some great info that will apply to you too. Best of all, It's free! Send me a PM if you would like an advanced copy via email. I should have advanced copies ready by Monay.

I was trying to do something similar with my site. The point is to land on the index page, read the intro copy, then go to What We Do and read the detailed description, then order. I didn't make it really as clear as Snuggie though. Maybe I could have my web developer put a big button at the bottom of each page saying "read more about it" and "order now".

It used to be that infomercials wanted you to head down to your local drugstore and buy their product, so they'd include logos of stores at the end. The problem was that inevitably the logos would get mixed up, so people would be told to head down to a store that they'd never heard of. So they'd say, hey I've never heard of Drugland, and I don't want to call a number and be subjected to a pitch, so forget it.

This is brilliant, just send them to your website and have them order easily. They don't even have to leave the house, or wonder why the Snuggie is apparently not sold in their area. The TV ad is pretty standard stuff, Chia and Clapper have been airing stuff like that for decades. But sending them to a website is great.

Honestly, it looks like the kind of gimmicky things they hawk in the Sunday newspaper that old people buy but never use. I guess it's cool that they sold so many, but not my thing.

Anyway, now on-topic: the landing page seems Ok. I think the video is probably very effective in driving sales.

My focus is on the ease of ordering. The visitors to the site don't even have to click a button to get to the order page... It's right there in three boxes on the bottom of the landing page. The sales copy is also pretty good... The whole page flows from top to bottom, so when you are done reading the pitch, the next logical step is to type your info into the boxes and order!

I also think it is a testament to their marketing/sales that they have taken a product that has been on the market for years in several styles, and basically rebranded it and made it seem as though it was a breakthrough product.

The product isn't my cup of tea... But their execution of a strategy is awesome.
