    The next big thing?

What does everyone think will be the next big market boom? Like the housing market a few years ago. What business will it be in the next 5 years?

The next boom will definitely be within the tech sector given the sudden explosion in devices, trends etc. especially within the mobile space. If you think the internet was anything with computers, wait for the mobile revolution to take over. Already there is a lot of investment, betting etc. on the space (mobile etc.) and is expected to grow very quickly in 2011 and beyond. What do you think?

Interesting topic, something I don't have any strong thoughts on but would love to hear more from others.

Fun thread , but the better question is how do everyday folks capitalize on the next big thing? Just buying PBW ETF for alternative energy? or AAPL for mobile phones?

How does the everyday guy capitalize?

Alternative energy definitely has feet with this current administraiton as it should.

Definitely the mobile market. Social gaming is really taking its hold in the tech community and is only going to increase in moving to mobile devices. Now is the time to team with developers and start testing new products in the field.

So you think gaming alone is the best ticket. I think advertising is where it is at. What else-dating? Financial transactions, etc.

    Mobile commerce.

With cellular carriers promoting 4G service, more than 130 tablet PC's on the market, and major retailers using QR codes for coupons & advertising campaigns, getting users mobile and then marketing to them seems to be the next emerging boom.

Not everyone will survive though. In another year or two, we'll see a consolidation of tablets with the larger manufacturers like Motorola buying out the smaller ones like eLocity.

In my opinion, the Wellness Industry is the next big boom. So also says Professor Paul Zane Pilzer, world renowned economist.

The baby boom generation is the largest consumer trend that was kicked off by the major event of a billion babies being born between 1946 and 1964.

The reason this group is so talked about is that they're one-third of the U.S. population yet control 65% of all the money. The boomers are like a basketball moving through a garden hose. They reshape every industry they go through. If you can predict where this basketball is going down the garden hose, you possess the ability to make fortunes.

I'll give you a couple of quick historical examples of the obvious buying patterns of these boomers. It started with a company called Gerber back in 1940, when it was barely known. But by 1955, just 10 years after the boomers were born, Gerber had sold 1.8 billion jars of strained baby food. As the boomers took their first steps, they were in Buster Brown and Kinney Shoes. When the boomers went out to play, Mattel and Hasbro got rich providing toys for this young group.

As the boomers went through their teens, Dairy Queen, McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken become billion dollar companies feeding them. When the boomers moved into their 20's and 30's, which was in the mid-70's, the real estate industry boomed and companies like Century 21 and Re/Max also boomed.

Timing comes into play when predicting which industry will boom next. You want to target the front of the basketball so you get the full eighteen years for your product to be popular. It's not a guessing game because the general category of what the front edge of the boomers need and want will likely be what the middle and the back of the basketball will want when they get to a similar age.

So look at the needs of 65-year olds, and whatever their needs are will be a huge trend for the next 18 years because every eight seconds for the next 18 years, someone will turn 65.

So really, your business, no matter what your current business is, is to be looking at which industries are expanding or about to expand. Don't have a loyalty to something just because you've been educated in it or have been doing it for a long time.

For me personally, I have selected to focus on the Wellness Industry which is expected to be the next Trillion dollar industry in the next couple of years because the baby boom generation is very concerned about maintaining their health. They want to live healthier lives. They want to lose weight, reduce wrinkles, reduce their chances of getting diabetes, etc...

Here's a cool video of Professor Paul Zane Pilzer discussing the wellness industry that you'll enjoy: YouTube - The Perfect Business
