The ticket to calm cool and collected is to know your material so well, that your confidence level is "outdasite".

Experience is a factor and THAT you live with until you have it.

    Realize this.

Everyone listening...the people you are talking to...they don't know what you are going to say....they have not heard you say it; so they will hear what you say, and see what you say for the first time. They will not know you are nervous unless there is some outward manifistation.

You can minimize those outward manifistations by using some common techniques.

    Speak loudly and slightly rapidly.

This technique tends to overcome jitters.

Use your breathing to your advantage. Take deep breaths - practice this...and talk as long as you can before you breathe again.

This will have a tendency to smooth out the jitters in your speech pattern together with speaking loudly and more rapidly than normal.

Use inflection and emphasis in your voice. Modulate from low tones to higher ones.

Make an effort to present in an overly animated way. Your natual hesitation to do this, will regulate your results, so that it is "natural" overcomding the timidity otherwise noted by listeners, which is "unnatural".

All of this personal effort helps to regulate your emotions and level out your speaking and bodily appearance.

I suggest you get a book at the library on public speaking.

Remember; the abilty to present yourself to one person or a group of people if you are in that kind of work, is going to make a big difference in your ability to get your message received and accepted.

So, practice, practice practice. I'd do it in front of a mirror, or better yet, get a web cam and record your presentatioin text and watch yourself. It's an eye opener. Then work on all of the flaws you see.

There are no short cuts to any effort; preparation and motivation will carry you over those with natural ability.

Trust me, the people with natural ability many times simply do not live up to their potential whereas those of us who must work hard to overcome our shortcomings and do it consistently and persistently always rise to the top.

Yes...but you'll be used to it. As long as you know what you are presenting (by heart), what your idea is. Be confident. Speak clearly. Good luck!
