Hey everyone. I just read this book about Larry Hillblom, or the "H" in DHL. Turns out the guy was kinda crazy, became the owner of an island in the Southeast Pacific after he made all his money and then "disappeared" in a plane crash after allegedly fathering multiple children with Asian women. I guess they are still fighting over who gets his money here in California. The books called King Larry by J Scurlock and if you're interested in the history of carriers its a pretty worthwhile read. There's some more interesting stuff on the book's facebook page
This guy came from nothing, though, and is the reason we are able to talk about th global economy. You talk about an entrepreneur, one day he just saw an opportunity in an industry he thought he could improve on and boom, DHL.
I would have thought that the guy who made globalization possible would have cared more about his legacy, but I guess not. I know I would have.
