The Future Of Buying Movies and The Fall of Blue-ray !!! Your Opinion Wanted !!!

    Hey There,
In my opinion Blue-ray came along to late and that its reign will be cut short by
a new platform: Internet download sites this is where the future is.
Even if we do continue with Blue-ray we will still go online after it gets popular
I say why not start now and own the hole market in the next couple years !!!
I am looking for the people who can make this possible and
are willing to work at it. I'm also looking to hear what you have to say,
Your opinion, Your ideas and what You want to see happen !!!

Are you referring to something similar to NetFlix streaming videos?

Well they say that your computer and tv will be one in the near future so you are probably right.

This already exists. It doesnt mean you cant do it, but it is being done. If you look at the number of households with broadband it isnt as high as you might think. Also, Blue Ray movies are huge. Disk capacity is what 25 gigs?

Then unless you have your PC hooked up to a TV (ps3 is great for this BTW) you're stuck watching a movie on a PC monitor instead of a big screen with surround sound. Total digital distribution is a ways off and DVDs will be here for some time. Hell, people are panicking about the analog to digital switch. People are slooooow to adapt.

As stated, I'm not suggesting that it isnt possible. You have a lot of money behind the push for digital distribution. The fact remains, however, that there are legitimate obstacles in the way before it becomes mainstream.

I don't think we will start seeing any dramatic results within the next 10 years with the move to online; I do agree that there will be a time where most movies are bought online and stored in something similar to AppleTV but that is many years away... A problem is storage capacity; the AppleTV (their 40GB model) can't hold many movies or even a tv season in HD at one given time, DVD and Blu-Ray doesn't have that problem so until their is nothing will change..

The problem with streaming movies, like Netflix, CinemaNow and what used to be MovieLink is the internet. Its hard to believe but not everybody has internet connection at their homes and not everyone who has internet has broadband connection which is needed to stream movies.. then you have connectivity issues. Then there is the issue with the film studios who get a lot of their revenue from dvd sales which cost higher then an online rental and we all know that the studios all want to make the most they can so why stop selling DVDS or Blu-Rays for $20+ for an online rental for $10? They get more revenue from DVD sells then online and thats what matters.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't try and be a somewhat pioneer in the online rental industry but can you really compete with iTunes or the already established websites? If this were to happen anytime soon iTunes would own it.

    Thank you for your input,
LG is coming out with a TV that has internet and DVR built in this is great because there's no extra box. I would want to team up with them or someone doing the same, I have no interest in starting a company to watch movies on your computer their is no future in this.
Combining your TV and computer is exactly my idea this would be the next step combining the computer, TV and video game system.
I think its a lot closer than 10 years and someone is going to start it
why let someone else ? I think if you can at least get standard def movies up there
and maybe iPod rez you would be in good shape until you could work to getting
    high def movies going.
The biggest problem I see is the studios but, if you can get them to do a test run I believe the numbers would do the talking.

I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas, maybe this interests one of you ?

    Thanks ,
