Exclamation The 5 Best Marketing Books Of All Time

If you are at all serious about business, you need to invest in your marketing education. In that regard, I've listed what I consider to be the 5 best marketing books of all time, that you should definitely have in your marketing library:

    1. How To Write A Good Advertisement by Victor Schwab

    2. Tested Advertising Methods by John Caples

    3. Ogilvy On Advertising by David Ogilvy

    4. Advertising Secrets Of The Written Word by Joe Sugarman

    5. The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy

Here's some that helped me out:

    - 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing

    - Guerilla marketing by Jay Conrad Levinson

And don't forget, "real world experience." All the books are worthless without action to accompany them.

Now I focus on learning the marketing principles mostly because of the dynamic-ness of the online marketing industry.

I am a very hands on person when it comes to learning marketing, trial and error. But I read a lot, but mainly on the internet, through blogs of sucessful marketers.

There's nothing wrong with learning on the Internet, but don't overlook the abundance of valuable knowledge offline. I can assure you, most, if not all of those successful marketers that you're referring to have quite an extensive library of marketing books. I refer to my library of marketing books almost daily.

Dale your list seems to be pretty biased towards advertising. Are you suggesting that advertising IS marketing, or are those your favorite books that just all happen to be specific to advertising?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm suggesting. Advertising is one of the many elements of marketing. Other elements include:

    1. market research

    2. Segmentation and targeting

    3. media planning

    4. public relations

    5. marketing strategy

    6. product positioning

    7. branding and brand developement

    8. product pricing

    9. distribution

    10. customer service and support

    11. community involvement

    12. follow-up

One more thing, those five books I listed also happen to be on Amazon's all-time best marketing books list, so I'm clearly not the only one whom considers advertising an element of marketing.

The question wasn't whether or not advertising is an integral part of marketing...that cannot be argued. I was simply suggesting that marketing is far more involved than simply advertising.

True story: going to interviews after college armed with a BA in marketing and potential employers not really understanding that marketing does not = sales.

<edit> to add that anyone seeking additional information on marketing, finance, operations, management, etc. may benefit from www.quickmba.com I think they give a good overview of subjects.

That's not the way I interpreted your question:
