I'm not sure if you intend to hightlight #2 or not, but persistence alone may not get a person very far, as one can continuosly be persistent over the wrong thing, hence getting the wrong results.

I would think that a good companion to persistency is continuous learning from one's mistakes so persistency can be controlled into the desired direction.
