Does anybody have any experience with text message marketing?

For example, I am getting my new location finished out by feb. 10th-ish and I want to put up a sign that says "Text "Tan" to 12345 to get info!" or something similar to that.

Anybody have any experience with that? I can't really find any websites with the costs associated with that kinda stuff.

i own a firework retail business in a small community and i tried this idea. i know several people who have hundreds of contacts in their phone(the town is one of 700). i would get them to text everyone in their phone and i would pay them in fireworks. this is a unique example and results may be different with other population groups but it did not work for me at all.

I know very little about this but from what I can gather, it seems like some of it is annoying and some of it is ingenious. Like text tickets to 55555 and you could win concert tickets. *this is cool if part of the 99 cent text goes to you. I was told it was but not sure if its true. If it is than you would raffle off anything for huge profits. Seems to good to be true.
