They time taken to load depends on how long the video is and also depends on how fast ur connection is. They have to be streamed.

    Answer ur question?

but there are two different ways to stream or what? some videos load as they play...other videos load first..then play completely...what is the difference there? the ones that load first seem to load faster.

Thats just the way the sites work. Some let the video fully load others play it and buffer at the same time. I dont think file formats has any bearing on that. Sure they're nearly all flash anyway.

Well bascially you have flash (.swf/.flv), windows media player (.wmv, .mpg etc) and apple quicktime (.mov, .m4v etc).

All of them can be embedded into a webpage and customly setup. But flash is the norm, and youtube uses it.
