Summarising books/guides/videos legal?

hey

i've got an idea for a site, instead of reading a whole book or guide, I summarise the most important aspects. I'll publish the original authors name and wont try to make it sound as if I came up with the concepts and strategies.

My question is, would this be legal?

I think you local lawyer will be better giving you guidance one this... I doubt there is one here. (although I believe akula know about law)

Somebody on these boards awhile back already has a site that does this - they typically had flowchart-like summaries that were pretty effective. Typing 'book summaries' on Google brings up a plethora of existing sites. I would suggest you don't waste your time.

Google does this under BookSearch>Full View>

Knovel does the same thing. Both offer whole books, not sure how many, I have never wanted the ones I've seen on google. I did get a nice one off knovel though, surprised and happy all at the same time.
