    Unhappy Stuck Hopeful Entrepenuer

I am currently an Assistant Hotel Manager and I have 8 years of experience in the hospitality trade and now its time I take my own path and come up with a really good business idea....but thats where i get stuck. I have so many ideas, however, there are ideas that I don't even have the qualification or the understanding to be able to get them off the ground and i need some guidance. I have thought too much into what I can do and inventions I have thought up, but now I need help to get myself grounded and a vision of where to start.

I know everything there is to know about word, excel, powerpoint, IGS, Winner, Silver Eagle, Opera, Hotel Perfect, Fidelio, Internet Explorer. However, I am rusty with Sage.

I have been a Manager now for 3 years and my hospitality experience has taught me everything there is to know about customer service, waitressing, bar service, planning, payroll, staff management, time management, reservations, housekeeping, sales and marketing etc etc etc

My interests have always been in interior design and property management but this takes money and time and I want to start a small business which will help me get towards my goal and achieve the required qualifications.

Any thoughts are welcome. I know about registering with Companies House and VAT registration when I do get my business plan finalised but I need to focus on one plan now not twenty. Otherwise, I will never get a business off the ground.

I want my ideas to be unique, provide strong competition with a professional 24/7 service.

I hope people can relate to where Im coming from on this topic and give me some helpful guidance or feedback.

It's more like what you want to do and then you start to find your market niche with a question in mind "is there anyone out there willing willing to pay for my services?"
You could do lot of things but the question is always "who is paying the bill".

    Hi,

In my opinion, starting a business is very tedious activity. It is great that you have good experience in your field and have all the passion and desire to do something for your own. But there is more to a business than just expertise and passion. A business involves a large number of steps such as initiating, planning, execution etc. Each steps require skill sets that are unique to them. For e.g. planning requires you to be good in understanding your finances and general planning skills , while execution involves making things work, motivating workforce, keeping cash flow alive.
    My point is this :
You need to have so many skills to run a business that probably you will not be able to manage them all. Its a good idea to make a skill matrix and find out your own strengths and weaknesses. That way you can know what skill is required and if you possess it . If not try to find a like minded person who you can share your vision with. A team is always better than one person.

Best of luck for your plans
