    Stocks - Are you Invested?

Just curious how many of you guys own stocks. If so, which stocks do you own? How much money have you earned or lost?

Well, I have a portfolio of Russian leading stocks, that looks like this ( see attached ) from the moment I bought it ( 01.05.2006. ) till today, so still keeping me about 6% short.

If only I had bought it one and a half month later, I'd be +15%

I've only bought stocks in Telstra (largest telecom here in Aus) and a global share fund... about $3k all up.

That $3k is worth about $1.7k now

Though if I had of bought in any of the bank shares (NAB, CBA etc) they have gone up an average of $10 per share in the last couple of years).

Stocks/shares are too risky IMO, I'd prefer to have control over the growth of my money.

I own some Microsoft, M Systems Flash (before it was bought out by SanDisk, yay me) and RiteAid.

I lost about $1K thanks to Microsoft, about 2 months ago, but it's floating and Flash has taken off, so I'm up about $400, total.

Bwah ha ha I made a killing on spotting Myspace early. Intermix was trading on the upswing from 4-7, I bought in at a DCA of 5.50 & newscorp bought them out at 12. I was a happy f'ing panda bear that day.

Other than that, not much. Just a few low-volitility mutual funds.

    Best,

I own 13 stocks right now (In the US). I've owned around 20 in total (started 2 years ago).

All of my savings except for a few hundred dollars are in my Scottrade account.

So far I'm up around 30-40% (in 2 years). I was up to 50% net towards the end of 2005, this year hasn't been as good. Mostly the markets are just moving sideways now, haven't lost or gained much lately.

My best trade was being Elan (ELN) at 3 dollars and change and selling it at $15. This is part of the reason why Im up so big, but right now I only own 3 of the 13 which I am down on. I think the worst trade I made I lost 25%.

I am thinking of selling some of the ones I own now and shorting others, by the way.

If you want to learn about investing visit www.fool.com and read books.

I reccomend anything by Peter Lynch, Benjamin Graham, or Buffett.

Usually, 90+% of my holdings are in VTI, which is an index fund that apes the Wilshire 5000.

Sometimes, I will divert funds out to take larger positions in other stuff, but never for very long.

For instance, recently, I bought Yahoo on the day it plummeted 22%. I bought in at ~$25/share and sold out for ~$29/share, so it wasn't a bad deal. My ears perk up anytime I see a big valuable company take a huge one-day hit like that.

I've also currently got a bunch of money dumped into Entremed (ENMD), which is a local pharma stock that has a cancer drug that's hopefully coming to market (Panzem). I bought a bunch of it back in early August for $1.53/share and recently it's been hovering around $1.90 due to the drug making it to a new level of clinical trials.

I've had my screwups too, to be certain. I violated my cardinal rule (buy on the cannons, sell on the trumpets) and bought IAU, a gold fund, at the top of the market, and then paid dearly for it. This was awhile ago though.
