Question SteamPump design USB, what do you think?

    Hi guys,
A friend of mine had showed me the "SteamPump" USB that he had designed.

So I, also being a designer by sole, came up with some, possibly even more fascinating, concepts in my head.
Now the question is, how do you think it would be possible to get some material value, so to say, from such designs? Finding someone who would craft this things and selling them online? Considering that the end price would be somewhat from 100 to 200$ , do you think someone would buy them?

Maybe someone has some experience in that field?

    Thanx!

I'm sorry to be harsh but I do not think they would sell. The design is great and the concept is quite unique but it's not very consumer focused. Why a steampump? I'm literally stumped for words. Sometimes less is more and I think this is a perfect example.

For $100-$200 how many GB would that be for? 32? 64? Because I do not think someone would fork out over $100 for a 2, 4 or 8 GB USB drive just because it's shaped like a Steam Pump..

Also with a complete new design, the manufacturers in China will need to create a brand new USB mould which usually requires a MOQ of 1,000-5,000+. I'm sorry to be so harsh.

    Hi,
Yes, I understand that such things don't really sell well. Already been there with exclusive mobile phones and fountain pens.

But still somehow I'm getting "visions" of beautiful stuff that could be made.

Anyway, I've calculated the end price of 100-200$ assuming it would be made by local craftsmen in very small series. If they would be made in China in such quantities that it would be economically reasonable, then of course, I believe, the price would be much smaller.

I haven't thought about the GB size, but as for the memory module itself, I don't think it would require a modified one, rather it would be possible to find one that fits in and use some glue or resin to keep it steady.

I think it sounds interesting, although at that price, I too am wondering if it would sell well or not. But who knows, the pet rock sold like crazy, maybe a steam pump USB drive is the next trend.

    I wish you the best!
