Starting Online Business...

Hi guys, first post here, hoping you can give me some advice.

I've recently decided to start an online business after noticing that no London, UK websites were focused on the younger generations. Most information sites were very tourist based, and are doing very well as established businesses. My business is currently having a website developed, and we are really getting ready for launch in early November 2008. I'm doing it on my own, but I'm really not feeling that busy, or as busy as I'd imagined I would be.

I studied business at University (I'm 22) and got a 1st class degree, but for some reason it feels like now I'm here and doing it, my knowledge has gone out the window! I was just wondering, what things would people be doing right now if you were in my situation? It's hard to generate much buzz without the site being up, because people will go to a non-existent site, find nothing (yet) and not come back. I have a Facebook group (growing everyday) and have been working on generating content (although most of it will be user-generated). I v also been working on getting the best advertisers on there (most of which are affiliates and won't pay per CPM which is my goal, i.e movie trailers(which I don't know how to attract btw)). Apart from that, which is only taking about 10-12 hours per week, I'm bored! Any advice would be great. Any ideas from people who have been here and done it as well would be fantastic. Thanks guys.

Darren.

I like your idea about young generations and I think it will be a great site if you can make it come true. After you finished your website, you need to exchange some links pointing to your website.

But it is not just links, it is high quality links that search engines will value.

I invite you to visit my intertwine address below and find out yourself. Thanks for reading

thanks for replying! The site will generate pages based on things people have "discovered" in London. Basically, users tell us about a restaurant, clothing brand, nightclub, etc that they found and really liked, we then create a page with our article where users can come and comment, rate, even add photos and videos of the discovery if they have them. The site will also include the major London attraction, really anything in London that people want to talk about. On each page will be a useful link to the discoveries "real home!". I'm pretty sure, that should help out on the whole search engine thing, but really that is an additional benefit to its original use - to give people more info if they want it. Check out the Facebook group to see the logo and demographic I'm attracting. Just search YNG LDN.

If you are bored building your business...it only means one thing. You are not following your passion! Figure out a way to work in something you are passionate about into the site in some way, shape or form to help it be more enjoyable.
