Starting an online magazine + forum

What is the best CMS / plugins / etc to go about starting a magazine/forum similar to YE? I was thinking of using wordpress on the front end with a magazine template, but I wasn't sure the best way to incorporate a forum.. I'm guessing YE uses simplemachines with a matching header so that the website "flows" design-wise.. Any thoughts?

VB doesn't seem to have much themes.. compared to simplemachines and phpbb.. Anyone know where you can purchase/get free templates that aren't just skins (most are just different colors)

Just use simple design, not too crowded or dark. I suggest you hire somebody to do the designing for you. Much more easier to get the look that you really want.

I would go with wordpress. Go to themeforest.net, they have great wp themes for magazines and everything.

I have seen some good WP themes on solostream that I would pick for a magazine, but I don't know how it would work in terms of incorporating a forum that had the same header as the main site..

i personally don't like sites where the forum looks distinctly different from the main page, although digitalpoint seems to do it and has remained successful
