Starting a software business with little programming knowledge

I am about to start a software business. Now I know as much as anyone about operating a computer, the internet, etc. I know little about actually programming a computer. However the software I plan to sell is rather simple. My concern isn't getting the software created, rather getting it made with best principals and being able to call employee BS. I figure maybe I could hire a middle manager type that knows how to program to make sure it gets done properly. Even still, I am not sure I would be able to hire a competent enough people to work for me. I assume when it gets down to it programmers hire the best programmers.

I suppose stranger things have happened than a non programmer starting a software company. I am confident I can fake my way through things enough to get good sales and get the company off the ground. Still, I would appreciate some advise from anybody who knows about the subject.

Find a programmer to join your founding team. Believe me, you need a developer on you team. Outsourcing is too expensive in the long run, and you can't make changes fast enough.

Can you elaborate on the type of "simple software" you want to sell?
    Engineering, programming, and more.

"Fake yourself through things?" I wouldn't word it like that! If you want to be in the software business, you need to have people on your team that know the business. If you have a meeting to make a sale, bring a developer along IMO.
