Starting a City Directory Website..Need Assistance

I need help starting a City Directory Website, but I do not know how to gather city business directory. Is this public record where I can gather this information from and use this towards my website. If you have any suggestions or directions I can head towards to, it will be great. Thanks for reading my post!.

Hey! I know several developers and applications on the internet that use information on state, city etc. such as ad servers. So, you should be able to find a database with this as well. Perhaps ask around a software development forum as well for more information as they have more details. Good luck!

Can you give more info on your city database? Is it something similar to yellow pages or google/yahoo local listings?

First of all I would like to thank you all for your responses, sorry took so long to reply In response to your question, Yea something similar like Yellow Pages or like Yelp but scaled down to just local/city directory. It's so hard to find information, do you know where I can data mind these information. DO I need to go to City Hall or some sort to get permission?
