    Starting a Business with 5k

I've been lurking here for awhile, and have never posted.

I am interested in starting a business, and have between 5k and 10k cash that I am willing to put towards it.

I am currently an ecommerce manager for a small internet retailer. I have worked in internet marketing, web development, database development , and ecommerce.... and would like to start something on my own.

Ironically - I am not interested in offering web services like dev or design, nor am I really that interested in starting my own online store. I know how daunting product sourcing and inventory selction can be (not to mention customer service) - and i think that is what steers me slightly away from that idea.

What would you all do with 5k?

Look what kind of products yoy could sell and buy your inventory assuming that you have enough internet skills to setup your store and do the marketing.

where are you based? I run a bridal website ( big market ) in Vancouver and am looking for a business partner. Currently its had over 1000 views but my funding is nil but I've realized advertising is the way forward. I want to expand to outside of Vancouver as well, as Weddings and Brides will always be happening and no matter how bad the economy...they don't slow down. I'm from the UK but currently live in Canada. This website can potentially be a profit maker but i do need someone i can work with.
    thoughts??

Thats exactly what he just said he didnt want to do.

    Maxwell,

    5k.. I would take a vacation.

In all seriousness though. 5k isn't much so your looking at some type of service oriented business as your most feasible choice. Possibly consulting using the experience you have gained?

    goodluck!

maxwell nobody said starting a business is easy. you have first hand knowledge in ecommerce so you already know the challenges so I would suggest that.
If you want to be rich, sell products and services.
If you want to be insanely rich, create and control markets.
I must create a system or be enslaved by another mans; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create.

    Maxwell,

Have you ever looked into network marketing as a viable business to start? With the minimal amount of money you have to get started, it may be a relatively good way to get your feet wet in business.

I've been wondering the same thing. Ive always wanted to own my own business. But I always figured you needed a lot more capital then that when starting out.
