Starting a business - legal matters

I started this topic but I think it has gone

SOmoene replied with a good link but I can't find it now

Basically, I'm planning to start a business. That business will operate only in the Summer months. Like July/August.

I am in London UK and would like to know how exactly do I set up a company so that I can pay wage slips to my staff as well as receiving payment from people.

    Thanks

Thanks Josh - I am still a bit confused on this matter.

My main reason for making it a registered company from the first is so that I can receive payment via invoices and that I can pay staff through it.

I will only have 15 staff and was even considering just writing my own cheques for them from a comany account that I will make - what do you guys think of that?

    Or is that too "shady"?

It's a company/business I am aiming to start next summer and will operate for only 1 or 2 months in the summer.
