How about this... have you started by doing market research to see if your magazine is even feasible? That's the best advice I can give because you can know as much about starting a magazine as you want, but you're not going anywhere with that knowledge unless certain factors are in place.

Seems like this site would help you out:

http://www.magazinelaunch.com

I would recommend against just throwing yourself into the magazine industry though. Their margins will continue to be squeezed as they face competition from online content providers. I would suggest you start a blog/podcast site for your content and build a following. You'll get immediate worldwide distribution that way and immediate response to see whether your content matters to anyone. If you're successful on the web, then you can see if your audience is willing to pay for a paper version. You can still generate revenue with a web version through online advertising.

Good luck.

I agree with jdoc...

Have you ever read the article that states the NY Times won't exist in 10 years (it will be online)? DO NOT start a magazine at this time... Work on something different, like an online e-zine. Use the money that was originally intended for publishing, distribution, etc., for marketing your new e-zine.

OR... Make a sort of aggregation like "Newsvine", but pick one particular topic - For example, technology (then again, that'd be like Slashdot).

I can tell you right now that the internet is 1) like the biggest book in the world, with endless information, and 2) the biggest magazinze in the world, with endless entertainment. In the end, it WILL dominate the publishing industry.
