    Social Network Promotions

I am sorry for being a **** before and i appologise for myself.

I have now decided to start a website for the promotion of social networks.

We will hopefully be detailing all new and upcoming social networks for everyone to see and review.

Im just wondering what the best way to earn money from this would be?

I was firstly thinking about social networks paying to be advertised on the site, but then didnt think we would get all the social networks to advertise so thought against this idea.

Does anyone else have any ideas on how money could be earnt from this?

    Thanks

    Jake

Before anyone is interested in advertising on your site, you would need to develop good traffic to make it worth their investment. Most people just start with adsense, and the like, and then grow enough where they can generate interest for direct advertisements from companies.

a page per network giving general information about the network including a rating from the staff detailing a score / rating out of 5 for things such as usability and look and feel etc.

If anyone has any ideas please feel free to put them foreward.

    A few thoughts:

When I brought up the issue of value to your customer, I didn't mean to the person paying you for advertising, or so you hope for. I meant the person visiting your site and giving you a reason to exist. Are you really providing value? I don't think so. Anyone interested in social networking cares about what subjective ranking the site receives, nor do they care about reading a page of info on the site. They care about networking with their friends.

At the end of the day, if you can't provide value to these people, you have nothing.

Try again and see if you can come up with something of value to provide.

well we compare all new and upcoming social networks in one place for everyone to see.

and then from our reviews and ratings they can choose which network they want to become a member of without the neet for being dissapointed and signing up to another one shortly after.

eg; if you got bored of the usual myspace, facebook etc then you would come to our site, read the reviews and ratings from other users and choose a new network to become a member of, and then have fun and tell us about your experiences on the network, thus letting more people the ability to read more and more reviews about more and more networks.

The problem is that you're basing the success of your site on a misconception about why people use such sites. The driving force behind social networks is the ability to network with friends and acquaintances, NOT because of ease of use or anything else. If all of my friends are on facebook, I'm not going to use myspace instead because you ranked it higher in 7 of 8 categories. No one cares how a certain site sizes up to others, they care about where their friends are and what's "cool" right now.
This is an important lesson. You must be aware of what your customer values and be able to provide them something of value. Because such a site provides users with nothing valuable, they will not use it, and when they don't, you will be unable to charge the big guys money to be featured and promoted on your site, as I anticipate your business model was set up to do. Moreover, you need to have some kind of credibility to make such subjective recommendations, and my guess is that you have no more than any other person.
This is not meant to be mean, it's meant to help you see that you need to recognize customer interests, needs, and values and then meet those if you want to succeed. My opinion is that you are failing to do so and will this not be successful. However, if you choose to go forward, I'll always still offer advice to try to help.

thanks for the advice, this isnt meant to be a huge money maker or earn anything big, this is only something for me to fill my time with.

Although i know what your saying i joined facebook when none of my mates were on it, just to meet other people and see what it was all about really.

But thanks for the advice and i plan to continue with the site and get it up and running in the new year.

Interested in their success, what drove them. There have been a few case studies done on the big guys, which akula pointed me toward. When are you launching? How far along are you?
