    Social Media Benifits?

I was talking to one of my managers today at work and I briefed him on our company's social media campaign, particularly our Facebook fan page. He asked me "But how is our presence on Facebook beneficial, compared to just email marketing".

I did not have an answer for him. So, I want to know your thoughts. How is being on Facebook and having a Social Media presence beneficial to your company?

It really depends on the company's goal in order to know if social media is really beneficial to them. For those who offer products and services, it may be easy to communicate with your clients because you can easily read and track their comments on your page. However, when it comes to your presence; you should study carefully if you really need to join the bandwagon of pages in Facebook or in any other social networking sites.

Facebook marketing is best for market penetration, not for sales. If you have a large customer base, connecting with them via facebook is much easier then email. Most youngsters today (tomorrow's shopper) don't even bother with email. Their life revolves around facebook. So if that's your target market, that's where you have to be 'in their face'.

Social media are media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.

Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, which allows the creation and exchange of user-generated content." Businesses may also refer to social media as consumer-generated media (CGM). A common thread running through all definitions of social media is a blending of technology and social interaction for the co-creation of value
