So I have this product idea, but no means of creating it.

Is there any way I can monetize an idea of mine, even though I don't have the technical know-how to design and construct it? I know you can patent ideas, but a.) you have to know specific materials, etc. to make the product from (which I don't know), and b.) I don't have the capital to hire a patent lawyer (or whatever they are called) to help me out getting a patent written.

So, is it possible to sell an idea to a company who could design and develop the product?

Yes, it is possible to sell your idea to a company that will develop it. Check out the US Patent Office for additional details at United States Patent and Trademark Office Home Page. Also, you may want to check out a company named Innoventum, Inc. It is a company of attorneys that started a basic "how to" business kit for small and start up businesses, like yourself that can capitalize on a number of opportunities. They have helpful free articles and literature. This may be beneficial to you.

The secret is in the method. I don't know what that method is...
Conservative opinions from someone who thinks a little differently than most.

I was under impression that you can't patent an idea, but if you can create a prototype, you can patent it.

You don't need an attorney. Just contact a product development company. They can do it all for you. For a price...
