Should I Work 3rd Shift?
hey guys, i just got offered a job where i could be making almost a thousand dollars a week. I am going to college right now and living at home so this would be an amazing salary for me. the hours are pretty bad though, it would be from 9pm to 4am. I don't know if its worth it or not. I already have a job as a cell phone salesman at the mall but i def. don't make a thousand dollars a week. What do you guys think I should do?

Ask yourself:
What kind of work is it?
Will I be ok/happy to do it? (helps to like it if it's 3rd shift)
Does it come with benefits? (how much better can it get, right?)
Is it in a field I want to learn more about?
Is it very far from home?
These seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people would just jump at an opportunity because of the money and then learn they can't live with it. Frankly, when I was in College, had someone offered me a 9pm to 4 am gig for a grand a week, I would have jumped just to pay for school, unless it was a job I just could not do.

If it looks this favorable to you than I would drop your other job and pick this new one up while concentrating on school. If you could handle those hours and your college work at the same time then I say go for it.

I would go for it. If it's too much, you can always quit later.

I dont know I mean you could definitely quit your other job, but you would have to get use to sleeping during the day. And it all depends on how focused you are on your grades, I mean your in college for college right - you only get one shot at it!

College is the most imporant thing for you right now. If you work those hours you would probably not be able to keep your grades up. You should look to the future instead of your immediate situation.

I'm curious, what kind of high paying sales job would have you working 2am? The only thing I can think of right now is stripper lol

haha
I seriously think you should just keep your job at the moment if your in college.
I don't see any point in burning yourself out whilst your there.
Unless your quiting college to take this job ? In that case, that sounds reasonable.
But I seriously would find it difficult to believe you could balance that sort of job as well as college!

I am taking college class and also working a 12 hour night security shift. It was hard for me to get use to it at first but now that i know what I'm doing i have no problem sleeping during the day. I have no life other then work and school up i get payed alot more then most of my friends will ever think of. If you think you can handle the night shift then go for it just don't quit your first month just because your worn out. Stick with it and it will pay off in the end.

I used to take a lot of odd jobs when I was back in college. Unless you really need the money, I don't suggest that you take it. You may earn a lot, but seriously? You'll probably just use it to cover your medical bills later in life.
Nothing would suck more than earning a lot but not being able to enjoy it.

Thanks for all the advise guys, I just called the manager and turned him down explaining how the hours would def. affect my performance in school. The money isn't that urgent but I guess I forgot to mention 1 detail that seems kinda important now.. My current job is taking money out of my check without my authorization, so I have a lawyer workin on legal actions to take against them. Which means pretty soon ill be out of a job u know how shady those cell phones companies are
