Sharing my experiences in launching 2 entrepreneur projects.

I will be updating this thread regularly in order to share my experiences in launching 2 very different projects. This is my first go at following through with an idea and thought it would be beneficial to share my experience.
Most people wouldn’t think of acting upon 2 different ideas at the same time, but that’s exactly what I did. Both ideas are far different from each other so that in itself presents a challenge.

So as a starting point, here what I’ve launched as of just a couple weeks ago:

Petntek – a blog\media source that covers the crossroads between pets and technology.

QRposterboard – a mix of a wiki, twitter, facebook and youtube is the best way to describe it I guess.

I will be posting an update to this describing the first steps I took before launching both of these. Topics will include my experience in site design, paying for web hosting, and discovering the wonderfull world of SEO, etc…

    Hi Shaun,

I can not wait to read about your experiences getting these two start ups off the ground. Is either one profitable yet? They sound like 2 really interesting concepts. Have you seen those pet tags that come with GPS. That is some amazing technology. Keep us posted as I have now subscribed to this thread. All the best in your web entrepreneur adventures!

Hey. I will be waiting to read all that you have to share as I have in the works of having a soft launch of my website Bahamas Spot Buzzer - Ultimate guide on living and loving Life in The Bahamas. Maybe from reading your experience I can learn a few things on what to do and what to avoid doing.

OK everyone, don't want you to think that I abandoned this thread before it even got started! I've been completely swampped between a full-time job and launching my 2 sites.
The QRposterboard has some design flaws, so I had to take the site down for a bit and redesign it. I just re-launched it with the new design and changes.
I'm also happy to say that Petnek is the featured blog on dogtipper.com
So with that being said, as the dust settles I will begin the layout the first few steps I took and what I've learned so far.

Hey I checked out the sites and I like where you are going with the QRposterboard so I want to get my QR code for my website on there ... at least when I have one created in the really near future!

    First off happy Friday everyone!
The month of January has been CRAZY given the fact that I launched my 2 sites.
I've learned a few things so far and one of them revolves around choosing a name. When I came up with the idea for QRposterboard I initially choose the name "postyoursquare". I went through the motions of registering the domain name, which meant spending $. I quickly realized the importance of choosing a name. Given the fact that my site revolved around QR codes, "postyoursquare" had no indication that it was related to QR codes.
I also started with a different name for Petntek. I originally choose the name VetCrunch(which I registered), after TechCrunch. I was going to blog about the latest apps and technology related to veterinarians. I quickly realized in doing my research that nobody was really covering pet and pet owner apps and technology. This has a much broader potential so I then decided to switch my focus to that and registered Petntek(which I'm still not sure about that name, but I"m going to stick with it).
So as far as coming up with a name for your product, make sure you spend some time and do some research before spending any money.

    Yes Shaun,

Choosing a name for your business is very important because it has some connection to what your business will be about.

One question... Did you purchase any additional domains i.e. .net, .info etc.?

Thank you for sharing your adventure with these two web sites.
What is your business model for these two web sites, specifically how do you plan on generating revenue?

I registered the domain names using godaddy.com and did buy the bundled package which includes the .info, .org, .net, etc….

I’m taking 2 different approaches for each of the sites.
For Petntek, I’m not really concerned with making money at this point, but rather focusing on creating quality content. It’s also giving me an opportunity to learn the ropes in things such as SEO and marketing.
As for the QRposterboard, my focus right now is to fill up every space with a QR code to become the first QR code that is made up of other QR codes. Once that is done, I plan on doing some marketing, press releases, etc. I will post later what my final plans are as for generating income as I’m still working on that.
