Setting Up My Own Nail Bar......................?

    Hello

in february i am launching my own nail bar. i am having the nail bar in the centre of a busy shopping centre within my area i live in. i have booked the floor space for a month and i have found all the suppliers for products and decided upon the colour scheme and at the end of janaury im colleting my nail stations. i am purhcasing 5. all in all the startup is costing me just over 2,000. i am going to have 5 nail booths and 5 staff working in there. we have two main competitors both of which are alot more expensive then the prices i am offering.

Also there are 4 women that book the floor space next to us that solely do eyebrow threading and they charge ten pound per go.

on there average day they do 25 eyebrows on a low day so thats 250 in turnover. becuase im having 5 staff working 6 hours a day i want each staff to do one lot of nail so one customer an hour meaning 5 a day per staff n 5 staff so = 25 done the same as the eyebrow threading. and each nails is around 25 pound for the most popular type.

do you think i will be able to hit 25 just like the eyebrow people hit 25, i thought i have an advantage as we are in the cnetre floor of a busy shopping centre where thousands and thousands of people walk through every day. in regards to quality and looks i have reallyr esearched well and i think in that sense iv hit it on the head and it looks really professional.

so the question is do you think i can hit 25 done per day? meaning one staff doing one per hour.?

    thanks

Depending on just the "mall traffic" is definitely not the way to go. You need to reach out to your customers, get their feedback about the service that you are offering and best, their contact info, so that you can get in touch with them once their suggestions are being implemented.

Another way to get the word out about your business and getting people to try your service out for the first time will be to plan out a refer-a-friend scheme. For example, when your customers are paying, let them know that if they visit your place next time with another friend, she will get a 25% off the total receipt.

I have a dumb question to ask but it's crucial to determine the medium that your business should have a presence in. Are your customers and prospects tech-savvy? If they are, chances are high that they have a profile on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter or even some UK-based beauty forums on the Internet. Set up a presence on these sites and have the URL of your profiles printed on your receipt. Encourage them to become a fan or to follow you by offering incentives such as specials or trying out new services that are not yet available to "non-exclusive customers".

Once the fan base is created online, your fans will be able to recommend your business to their network and friends easily. Also, you can also send out promotional messages once in a while as well as interacting with your customers from time to time.

One thing for you to take note of. Although you have 5 employees, it is extremely important for you to stay as close to your customers as possible. Find ways to interact and talk to them. Perhaps it can be topics that are non-nails related just to create the rapport. This is one crucial element in order to achieve success with a small business.

Hope my tips are able to give you some ideas on how to improve the business.

Thankyou that was a great reply in which i for sure will be implementing, i was already thinking of having a loyalty card which will encourage them to come back, 5 nails done and get a 6th free for example. so what you said about the refer a friend idea is a excellent idea which i will be sure to implement, again it was a great point that you made with the online social networking presence and my target consumers i would say are tech savvy so this would be a good way to interact with them not only but also offer promo incentives to people exlucsively who are joined to the group. great idea! so with the implementation of all of these above in which you said and the mall traffic do you think i can hit 25 a day?

    regards

Yup, might even get more than that. Just don't lose your personal touch with your customers as the business owner.

I just heard back from the shopping centre where im renting the floor space. They have qouted me £4,000 a month rent for 7 days a week use. they have also told me that the feetdropcount per week is 160, 000 people walking through there totalling to 600 000 people a month. as i said before having 5 people working my nail bar with one nails done each per hour meaning 25 nails done a day, if i was to do this average every day i would have a turnover of 21,000 a month, with 4 k going on rent another 4 k on wages roughly or just under and most the rest profit as overheads for stock are very low. Even though the rents high i think its probably udnerstandable due to how many people you are exposed to per day etc. I have just had the booking form sent to me and i am going to proceed with my PLI INSURANCE which is a must, its costing me 500 to insure with upto 5 million im insured to. which i think is a great deal. So with all of the promotions that you wayne have given me do you think i should definately go ahead.?

    regards

    Hi Lauren,

I appreciate that this is an old thread but I was hoping I could bother you with a couple of questions. My girlfriend is looking to start up her own nail business at first from home and on the road and then get a salon once she has built up a good client base. First of all, have you now set up your salon and have you been able to hit the targets you set yourself?
Secondly, what did you need legally to set up? In terms of insurance did you only need your PLI insurance?

I look forward to your reply and will be passing on to my girlfriend some of the good marketing tips mentioned on here by both you and Wayne.

    Thank you,
    Aaron
