    Service business...

My friends dad is being laid off and he asked me to ask here if anyone know how to start a services business.

He had an idea to service fax and copy machines. He worked at GM and now got laid off for good.

He has money but wants to start a business where he can make money. So he dosen't worry about looking for another job which he said that his expertise are really not in high demand since it's flooded so it will be hard to get a job with his age.

He wants to know how he can learn how to walk up to GM or big corps and try to make a contract with them to have them use his services he will provide the fax and copy machines and service them. He said he had alot of experience with the printers they use but know that company that done this business went under and no one in the area has such a business.

what advice would you give him??? and what websites could he go on to learn more about the business side of things. He is a electronic engineer.

Well, the first question should be why did the company that was doing this go out of business?

If it was because of complete incompetence on the part of the folks that ran that company ok, but it could also be that they just didn't have any demand for the service in that area. That would be a really good sign that he should look for another business idea.

Until he has experience in the business, it will be hard for him to get in with some big clients, but given that he already worked at GM, maybe he can use his contacts there to get in with the people that make those purchases.

    Good luck
