had a general question for those who know SEO well...
when i post in a message board (such as YE) and i have my websites as part of my autosignature, is that picked up as valid backlinks and does this improve my search engine results?
thanks.

What a very good question.
The answer is yes.
Although it does not have as much weight as regular static links, it does indeed help you.
It is well picked up by SE and usually quicker and more often because it is a messageboard where content is frequently refreshed.
However, as I said before, it does not have as much effect as standard static links. Those are links that are "permanent".
Links on forums and signatures move around however. Meaning that the actual url of the link location changes.
For most search engine algorithms, the older the back link, the higher effect it has (stronger).
That is why signature links do not have as much power as standard links, because if the location (url) of the link is changed, it becomes a "new" or "young' link.
To get the most out of any backlink though, use whichever keyword you wish to rank well for, as the anchor text for the link.
For example, one of your sig links is "www.CelebrityFeuds.com", you may want to change that to "Celebrity News" or "Celebrity Gossip" or whichever keyword is popular that is relevant.
This will directly help you acheive better rankings with that specific keyword.
Having your url as the anchor text is ok, but using a keyword is best.

so is there a downside to trading links in our autosignatures with each other or would it only help us?
anyone want to link trade in our auto signatures???
I might add that you should do your keyword research first.
Celebrity feud has 21,000+ competing pages for that term and only 1,400+ searches per month.
Celebrity fights has 12,000+ competing pages and 1,100+ searches per month.
While these numbers are decent I like to look for terms that have 4,000-10,000 searches per month and under 10,000 competing pages. These are juicy numbers...Hard to find, yes, worth the time, of course!
You are in a pretty tough market...I did about 20 minutes worth of research and found something "ok." (Not Great)
"Celebrity Gossip Website" gets 2,300+ searches per month and has less then 1,000 competing webpages.
Now go start a squidoo lens titled Celebrity Gossip Website write as much content as you can about Celebrity Gossip Website. Make sure to put that keyphrase in the content about 3x per 100 words.
Make the squidoo lens as long as you can while staying very relative to "Celebrity Gossip Website." Then when you are done use OnlyWire.com to socially bookmak your new squidoo lens. This will let Google find it quicker and provide some nice backlinks.
