Sending Press Releases - Would you Pay?

Those that send press releases out, do you pay for a service to do that? If so, how much?

Would you pay to subscribe to a site that let you post things and let readers vote on whether or not they liked it?

I am kicking around an idea, but need to be sure I can monetize it.

A lot of people pay and will pay to send press releases, but you have to make sure that they get their money's worth by putting the releases into the right hands i.e. writers and editors for major publications

I payed for one for PartyBlaze.com through the Network Solutions Press Release package.

For me it was not worth it at all, but then again, I am learning that if I post something on digg, and nobody votes for it, I may not want to jump in and spend a ton of money on that project for a press release.

The press release package included a search engine optimized press release, and front page exposure on prweb.com

I think the actual press release its self was very professional, and the service was great, but I guess the world is just not willing to adopt the site that easily.

I have learned that I will not pay for that service again, as I can write a pretty good one myself, and I know how to do exactly what they did.

You can see the press release I payed for here:
http://www.partyblaze.com/press.aspx

Either way, if you want on the front page of prweb, you will need to pay for it.

Has anyone had any success with digg and/or slashdot? If not, what would make it a better service?

Would you pay for a similar service? What would it have to offer to get you to pay for it?

prweb.com charges to send out press releases... Up to $80, I think. They make a ton of money.

I sent out a few releases before, they really didn't do anything. The only action I got from a release is one I sent out myself via email.
