    Selling Name-Brands

    Hello YE,

I started a website way back when, now its time to move on to bigger and better things.

First, I want to start a website selling anything and everything for teens...including apparel, electronics, music, etc. Does anyone know how to get suppliers such as DC Shoes, Tapout, hurley, Famous stars and straps, billabong, fox.. etc.

This is going to be an awesome one-stop shop for a targeted audience, around my age. Since i am a teen myself, i know what is cool and what is needed in a COOL website.

Second, does anyone have a guess as to how much a website of this magnitude would cost? I am preparing a business plan, and i need to come up with a projected cost.

tips, advice, and/or comments will be appreciated

    Thanks spenserb14,

I was really looking for a pacsun sort of store with electronics and other merchandise.

What kind of designer jeans? Also, do i need some sort of certificate saying that i'm allowed to sell these?

Never dealt with this directly before myself, but I'm hoping someone can help you on the supplier issue.

As for the cost of Website development, it would be too hard to give even a ball-park cost without knowing much about the site. If it's just straight listings and a shopping cart (with the innovation in the graphics and branding) then expect to pay anywhere from $2,000 up (depending on whether you can do it yourself, how much help you would need, etc). Major e-commerce sites run into the hundres of thousands or millions of dollars. I know being a startup you don't want to spend that much.

So here's my suggestion for the Website: use something like osCommerce that's open-source and free in its basic form. Coders who can customize it for you are a dime a dozen on sites like elance.com (and perhaps even here at YE). You will save a bundle of money this way, and still get a site that gives the customer experience you want.

    Hope that info helps.

It would cost you at least a couple thousand dollars to get started, since you want to sell brand names and electronics.

I think it is a little harder than you think. You are going to need to put out a ton of money for inventory. If you want to know how to get that stuff, you can actually just contact their corporate office. Ask about becoming a retailer.
