Selling alcohol? (Australia)
hey all

Always thinking ahead of myself...

I'm wondering if anyone on these forums knows what the requirements etc are for setting up a business which sells alcohol (e.g. a bottleshop)? ... but in Australia?

The opportunities with uni/college and alcohol are endless, so I'm very interested in the requirements and legalities etc

Liquor Licensing controls all requirments for the sale of alcohol

The Queensland version is http://www.liquor.qld.gov.au/

Good idea in regard to being near a Uni/College. I believe the major retailers (Coles/Woolworths, Liquor King) control much of the market.

How would you differentiate yourself from your compeditors?

I guess it depends on how extensive the requirements are and what wholesale prices are like... but I know what students are after so in a pretty good position.

Amazing what a little extra searching does: Fair Trading NSW Liquor Licence

Hopefully that's the only licence required?

There were a few others for on-premises at universities etc, but we'd be selling off-premises initially.

As the big deciding factor will be what prices I can get stock at, and at what prices I can sell. Since it's all about the price for uni students (e.g. goon)

I might try find a aussie bottleshop forum: if one exists
