    Selling a startup idea?

Hey all, I have an idea for a startup that I KNOW would work and be profitable. However, it's not a road that I would be able to go down. If I was single still and didn't have a family, I would definitely launch it and it could probably go nationwide in a matter of 6-12 months with multiple locations across the country; and from there could possibly go overseas.

Do you ever come up with ideas that just aren't viable for you to undertake?

What do you do with them?

Either you turn them into businesses or you file them away in your desk. I don't want to say you'll never sell it... but the likelyhood is slim to none... everyone has ideas... very few ever become start-ups... and even less become real businesses...

hahahaha.... Most ideas talked about on YE are not viable for the people starting them.

That's what I figured, I didn't know if there was any way to sell an idea as it isn't really licenseable nor is it property.

I just hate to one day stumble upon someone who had the same idea, capitalized on it, and is now making the money I could've made...

Always a tricky situation. The reality is most likely that 20 other people have the same idea and are pondering it just as you are now. Everyone is waiting for someone else to do it so they can find out whether or not their idea would have worked.

What is stopping you from doing this idea? It is money... time... what? There are creative ways to get others involed in the idea without totally being left out. You can give the idea to someone (you trust if possible) and let them run with it. Then hopefully you can consult for them.

I think if the idea is truely a great idea you will find a way to make it a reality. If you are hesitant then maybe you need to look at the idea again.

I have a wife, a 1 yr old son, and my second son is due any day now. It is the type of thing that would take alot of time away from my family, and although success and money are very attractive I don't want to be that Dad that wasn't around to see his children grow up because he was off around the country running a business 6 days a week. Some people don't mind that, but my ideals and other obligations are different than most.

Honerable... well then maybe you should post your idea on YE... see if anyone thinks they can develop it... write a consulting job into the plan for yourself. If you are not going to do anything with it then you have nothing to loose....

I agree with Roger and I have 34 years as a serial entrepreneur. You either shelf it or let others see if they can help you with it!
