A friend and I are starting a web development company called Create Candor. Have a look. We have a few interested parties, but I would like this to become a full time venture at some point in the future. The big thing we are missing is a sales staff and perhaps some marketing efforts. Basically, we can give sales agents 20% for their first 10 sales (including residual hosting payments for customers that sign up for hosting). I am an internet project manager during the day. I do this everyday so I figured why not do it on my own. The big difference between my work and the independent venture is that my company has a reliable name, sales staff, and existing prospects. My side company does not really have an established name and little leads. So of course we will initially offer sites below market prices and compensate sales individuals at a higher than normal rate, 20%.
Also, another idea to get us popular and to make money in the future is to invest our time into projects. We are young entrepreneurs like many on the site. I am skilled in programming and hosting services with a friend skilled in design. If you have an idea for a start up, instead of charging maybe we can work out a trade or future commission structure.
I guess my last comment would be advice on the site look. We are not targeting companies that want flashy sites. Our niche market is going to be content driven and easy to navigate sites. Our big sales pitch will center on our content management systems, SEO practices, and hosting support that allows sites to be easily updated, reliable, and dynamic in nature.
