    Running a website

Pretty broad question, but what are the benefits of running a website? I understand that you can generate income from ads, memberships, and things of that sort, but I don't really fully understand how it all happens. Could someone help me out in detail. Thanks.

If you want to make a good amount of money you need to be first in the door and you need to gamble a good amount of money on your idea to get it started. Depending on how technical your website is will determine your bet. You will also need a lot of money for marketing to get people to your website. If you choose to follow an innovative site your cost will double because you have to compete with others in the fight to be on top.

None of this is true so don´t worry - making money on the internet really isn´t like this.

    It´s a simple formula really.

Traffic + Conversion (clicks on ads, sales) = Revenue. The more traffic your website gets the more money you will earn.

You don´t need to be the first website with a unique idea. Affiliate marketers make tons of money promoting affiliate offers from networks like cj.com. Build a website around a certain offer and you will soon be collecting relevant traffic that you will see the offer you are promoting. My favorite way of doing this is with a blog - they are SEO friendly and wildly easy to maintain. Plus, you don´t have to be a technical genius to run a wordpress blog, pretty much anyone can do it.

The nice thing about websites is you don´t need a ton of money for marketing either. If you are focusing on getting natural search traffic concentrate on getting links from other websites. You can also leverage marketing methods like article marketing or social bookmarking which only take your time (free).

I would get your feet wet with Adsense first - it´s simple to implement and is very handsoff.
If you want to be rich, sell products and services.
If you want to be insanely rich, create and control markets.
I must create a system or be enslaved by another mans; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create.

Thanks for the info. You sound like you know what you're talking about. Do you know of any articles or anything I can read to learn some more?

Your advice is based on myths and misconceptions that many common people have who haven´t made any real money online with websites.

I understand you might be annoyed, but I was just trying to point duezeone in the right direction since you made it sound like you need a lot of money, a new idea, or super technical website to make cash - these all make it sound more difficult when really the opposite is true.

The internet is where small time players can really dominate big time players - this has been proven over and over again.

You don´t need a new idea - just a successful system. Nor do you need a technical website - you can win online with great content which is basically just words when it comes down to it.

duezeone, you can learn a lot from hanging around wickedfire.com and forums.digitalpoint.com - start there.
