Restraunt Business

Do you think the Restraunt business is really worth the risk?
There are thousands of restraunts out there... so you would really need to have something to set yourself apart from competitors...
I don't see restraunts really making big amounts of money, and the start up cost is quite alot.

Plzzz give me your thoughts and positives and negatives, thxx

Why do you need a restaurant that sets yourself apart? Bottom line is people have to eat...its a necessity. Almost all neighborhoods have their pizza place, chinese, italian, mexican, etc. style restaurants.

Choose your style carefully and make sure there is a niche market, does your food concept fit the demographics? i.e greek food in a minimal greek populated area

I have two restaurant ideas that I will be implementing in the future (both of them franchises). I would only create a restaurant if it could be expanded nationally and globally. One of the restaurant ideas has a multi-billion dollar market if it's done right. However, this will be started once I have substantial startup capital because like you mentioned, the startup costs can be quite a lot-- especially when you're going to be going for a lot of brand awareness (which is one of the ways to set yourself apart and protect against future neighboring competition, yet expensivo).

If you have the right management and systems in place and the proper planning, the restaurant will not consume your life which would be a downside if it isn't done right. I'f you're thinking of one restaurant, I'd say no way jose. But I'm not expert and can't give you specifics, sorry.
