    Recruitment Agency Home Start-up

    Hi,

I'm thinking about possibly starting up a recruitment agency in the IT and Engineering Sectors, however to minimise overheads I would like to do a home start-up.

Now i'm aware of how to find potential employee's, through a whole plethora of jobs sites and other marketing methods, however how do I find clients that require staff?

Is it a case of cold calling potential clients? For example, I type in 'Engineering company' on Google, Search Careers, see that they require staff - Call them up and explain what we do and how we can serve them.' Would this process be somewhere along the correct lines?

I'm looking to send employee's directly to the client without interviewing them inbetween (except via the telephone). Is this acceptable? Obviously, once I have some capital i'll invest in a small office, and expand on there.

Please offer all advice/feedback etc here, i'm really struggling to see how on earth i'd find clients. I'm sure I can succeed, I just need a push.

    Thank you.

I actually work for an IT specialist recruitment company so I can ive you a little insight into this world. Obviously since you're not an established company you won't have a client list so the method you described woul be one that is adopted in most sales recruitment environments. Teams that I work with across the country adopt this approach to add clients to their portfolio worldwide, you could also try and partner with your local jobcentre to gather small town clients from their as they will work with the local network.

I would suggest using a process of looking at recruitment websites and seeing what vacancies are being advertised by companies on thier and see if any candidates in your database would be a good match for that role - this would be a great starting point for a telephone call as you have an resource that would be beneficial to them and you need to get your clients hooked on the phone within the first 20 seconds. Firstly before you try to contact any potential clients for business I would recommend you put a powerpoint presentation together whihc outlines who you are, who your company is, what recruitment you specialise in, what your company can offer/what makes it different, provide a slide with statistics if you can and a slide with other clients you recruit for (obviously since you don't have clients currently you can make these up) - you can then discuss your profile over the phone and provide this to your potential client so they can see what you can do for them. You should also look into creating a Linkedin account as many companies will search for you on their to look voer your past experience and current profile.

In regards to interviewing them, I would suggest you always do a thorough phone interview with your candidates or if possible meet with them at a coffee house for a face to face chat. You always need to make sure you're sending the highest calibre of candidate to your clients as this will reflect the standard of services you supply, you could also test potential candidates with free tests provided online before you send their cv's to your client to make sure thet can actually do the skills that are listed on their CV.

I will stomp rambling on now, but if you need any further advice please feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to share my knowledge with you.
