Real investors do not invest in ideas, especially VC's.

This is definitely the wrong place to source for investors. I read once in that the only folks that invest in ideas are fools, friends, and friends of fools.

Real investors, like VC's like to see that you've put your own capital into your business. But judging from your post you aren't ready for a real VC, at least not yet! My suggestion to you is to really do the research and analysis of both your market and industry. Who are the influential people and organizations within each? If you can convince those folks of your venture (after having some proof of concept funded by your own funds) they will make ideal investors before a VC will consider your venture seriously.

Your pitch lacks focus and is all over the place. Like noob said, VCs aren't looking for ideas, they want momentum. $5k to 1m? That's a gap as wide as the Grand Canyon.

    Hi Dragon,

Your initial post mentions "ideas", not any actual IP. So, we haven't had any indication that your executing on your ideas up until now.

With your .5mm invested, you're still going to generate an execsum and numbers to back that execsum up. Aside from "friends, family , and fools" your best bet is to try to convince industry experts to invest in your idea. Then network your way to potential buyers.

Lastly, don't get in the way of your own success. We see entrepreneurs get in the way of their successes all the time. Unfortunately, you've got to be able to take criticisms on the chin, and you WILL encounter folks that just don't get your idea right away. Listen to them all, because each one has something of value to share with you.

I can tell you from personal experience that this line alone will have pretty much every VC saying no to you.

I have 3 businesses, 2 of which bring income in, and the third has been a capital investment. That third business has been the development of a Video Game Engine. I have been on this site for many months and have not seen any project on this entire site find a Venture Capitalist. So blaming my project for being the issue seems to be an attack against me.

Good luck with your endeavors Dragon. I think what we're trying to convey is that you seem better suited for an Angel investor.

Keep us posted on how you're doing!

Angel investors invest in the .5-1mm range. They are often the first stop before a VC.

I suggest you read "The VC Way" as a primer for investing, followed by "Done Deals" published by HBS for a crash course in institutional funding.

You're really going to have to do the homework and arm yourself with knowledge and beefed up presentation skills before approaching professional investors.

Shoot me a PM or email if you think I can be of assistance.

You might want to read my comment again. I never blamed your business or made any personal attacks. My comment is very straight forward. A statement such as you need to raise capital in the neighborhood of $5k to $1M will result in you not getting any capital generally speaking and if you wonder why, it's because it illustrates to an investor you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to raising capital. There are lot of factors that goes into deciding who gets capital and who doesn't and one of those deciding factors is how much capital you should raise. A broad range means nothing as it shows you haven't fully plan on the allocation of funding.

Reading books may not provide you with contacts needed but there are valuable lessons in many books you can pick up. Even if you were to meet investors with money, whether they are Angels or VCs, what difference would it make if you can't get them to fund your business because you have no clue how the process works? Bare in mind people on here are offering you valid advice to help you out. No one would tell you to read something only to steer you wrong.
