    Radio Station biz

The idea has been itching me horribly to start up a radio station. My town has about 7-8k population. There is literally only 1 radio station, and it only fulfills ages 35+ (maybe 40+). One radio station is in a town about 40 miles away, so if you added that town to population of radius, its about 30k. Anyway, the music is horrible for the younger crowd, and when I think that, I think target audience. No one around the age 13-30 listens to the local radio because it doesn't play any music that the age group would like, nor do we get any other radio stations because of mountain range. I know I am in a good position here to make an advertising medium for places who rely on younger customers. I am wondering if anyone has either run, been involved in, or knows anyone in the radio business, and how advertising is charged to clients.

What about Internet radio? To air, you need a license and transmitting is costly because transmitters are consuming lot of energy. Its easier to setup online or digital radiostation (cable) nowadays.

But seriously you would need some capital to start a radio station, between licensing and all of other fees that you will face money will be disappearing quickly.

Do more research about standards and licenses. If you can make it happen i'm sure it would be good.

Why waste your time on your home town? Go somewhere remote... ex: Turk's and Caicos Islands. I have a friend that recently create a radio station down there... making barrels of money considering the only music played down there is mostly gospel (believe it or not). He brought new music to the islands giving tourists something to listen to... and where do tourists stay when they go there? Most likely resorts! And what does that give you? All Inclusive at the resorts that play your music.. all you need to pay for is the flight.... and that cost shouldnt be a problem

Radio Stations involve connections... make sure to let businesses that reside in the area your broadcasting in know that you will create a radio spot for them for a certain fee... theres where the money gets big!

Here's his site: Kenneth Blair Caughlin

Oh yeah! And don't worry about having that "Radio Voice" in this day and age radio isn't all about your "Radio Voice" anymore..
