Question on sponsoring and sponsorship.

Hi everyone!

I own a small contract labouring business.

Seeing as the business is under a year old, I was wondering whether It is a good idea to sponsor local programs, events and clubs in order to further promote and advertise my company? I am hoping this would also boost positive public perception of the business. If so, are there any downturns/pitfalls which may be involved?
