    Problem

Alright, well I am reading up on SEo and all of that stuff. I really would like to start my own SEO marketing company, how ever I am also working two jobs and going to school full time at the moment. There is really no time for me to start something up from scratch. I have, however, been given an oppertunity to work witha friend who owns a web design and hosting company to work for him as an SEO consultant. I would make 95% of what an SEO project earns, etc.

My question is, what should I do? On one hand I want to work for him since it will be convenient for me and him both, but on the other I will technically be emploued by someone else and I want the glory and self sufficency that comes with being self employed.

I would really like some insight into this prediciment and also would love to hear feed back from some other college business owners.

Well let me ask you this...Why do YOU want to be self-employed so badly?

I would take this opportunity personally. If nothing more for a learning experience for when you do have time to start up your own SEO marketing company

If you want to get into marketing than I would suggest visiting local advertisers and sit down with a marketing specialist (if that is what interests you) and interview them. Find at least 3 of them and ask them the questions that bothers you the most. This will help you find out about the industry and see if it is a good fit. It's always a good idea to do this for any type of career or job. If you are going to apply at a investment bank, but you hate numbers and one on one consulting, you might not be suited to that type of career.

Your local job service might be a good source of information. They might have career training (I took a great class on it) and they will fit you with about 30 careers that might be a good fit for your personality and skills.

This is not just a good resource to find a good job, but a good way to figure out if you would want to put all of that effort into starting a business like the one you plan to start, or join.

Consult a SCORE representative (score.org), local job service, state/county employment services or career counseling, or other various resources.

If you live near a decent sized book store I'd suggest checking out "50 Best jobs for your personality" by Laurence Shatkin. It's a great first step.

    Best wishes in your venture!
