portal/directory for group

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone runs a website that acts as a portal/directory for a group that encompasses a particular interest or attribute. Such as a site for people who enjoy riding Moto-X bikes or something?

If so, how profitable are these sites, and how do people usually pull revenue from these sites, apart from newsletter emails, and google ads, banner ads?

Getting a website setup is probably the easiest part of starting a website. Getting people to your website and keeping them around is the hardest part. The average website on the internet makes about $10 through Adsense, etc. so you really need a solid idea and marketing plan to make some serious cash.
