Please share an example of a US utility patent applicaiton

    Hi all,

I am hoping that someone will post a version of a utility patent application that lead to an approved utility patent, so that I can use it as a template in creating a new application.

I can't just look at the uspto at patents that have been issued because those applications have been reformatted and additional information has been added.

I have been following online guides, but I am not following exactly what is expected. For example, Utilty Patent - Writing the Title of Invention describes how to write the title of the invention section, but is it:

    TITLE OF THE INVENTION

    [0001] My Invention
    [0002] Inventor name: kindafishy
    [0003] Inventor address: ...

    or is it:

    MY INVENTION

    [0001] Inventor name:

... or is it even necessary to indent in the title section and such.

If someone could help out by sharing an summary that ended up being granted a patent, that would be great. I have googled, and it does not appear that anyone has posted the original application.

Many thanks to anyone who would be so helpful.

Did you have an attorney do a preliminary patent search yet? You need to do this before you actually apply for the patent. You can use a company like LegalZoom: Online Legal Document Services: LLC,Divorce,Wills,Incorporation & More which will charge about $250 for a preliminary search. You want to do this before you spend the thousands of dollars submitting an application for an item that is not going to get approved. I have a copy of my preliminary patent application and its about 25 pages long... so I'm not sure if a template is possible.

    Hi Roger,

I did my own preliminary search. I spent close to 30 hours reviewing US and Canadian patents (I browsed over 1500 and examined 250 or so quite closely). I also scoured dozens of online businesses looking for a similar product or invention and I am confident that I can submit safely. I may need to go back and forth a couple times, but that is expected.

I don't believe I need a lawyer for any of this, although in hindsight, I would like my 30 hours back and I would gladly pay $250 to do it . Next time...

I guess I am not looking for a template because I know how different they can be depending on what is required. I was just hoping to see a finished one, or even just snippets of the first 4 or 5 sections, and then maybe a couple of the more challenging ones.

By the way, I see that you contribute a lot to these boards, and I always take the time to read what you have to say. You're pretty helpful to the people that come here for help. I will give back one day when I can too.
