    Patents Question

    Hi

Is there a service that you can say what your idea is to a person and then they can tell you if it is protected or not? I've just had a look for patents online on an idea i've just had but its hard to understand what they are protecting without pictures or someone explaining it.

Patent attorney is the best person. Their are some companies that can do searches on the net but I dont know what their qualifications are.

I would suggest that also. Make sure your patent attorny has had a lot of experience with your area. You have to find people with knowledge and talent to take your business to the next level. After you have a patent, you might consider launching your own business using the product or you might license it out to other companies and charge a small/large commission for the use. I believe you have 20 years before the patent ends so make use of all the time! Good luck!

    ummm 2 things..

    patents do not "protect ideas"
patents are a type of legal right that grants a limited monopoly for the commercialization of an invention
it's got nothing to do with ideas..ideas are not patentable

second..patent filings/applications are really easy to read and understand
you can find and search them at Google Patents
    they all have pictures etc

i really don't see what the issue is..

How do you describe your idea on google or other patent websites? I personally prefer using someone extremely experienced to let me know about the patents regarding my potential product.

guidemesingapore, even the most experienced patent attorney won't know the details of every single patent out there. There are over 7 million patents alone. You'll have to do some of your own research. Just type in keywords of your idea into the patent search and see what shows up.
