I ran a painting business my first 2 years of college and generated over 100K doing that. You have to know how to handle the objections that come up when talking about painting. For example, when someone says they want to do it themselves, what are they really saying?

    It could be:
    1) "I dont trust you, so I will do it myself"
    2) "I think I can do it cheaper"
    3) "I think I can do a better job than you"

Your job is show them value beyond what they are able to do themselves. This is easier said than done, but it is worth figuring out.

I stopped for a few reasons, but mainly I was just tired of it and needed a change. Painting was never the final stop for me. Im a Junior at Arizona State University, and I wanted apply what I had learned to other aspects of business.

I run an organization designed to improve education in our schools. I work at a business plan writing firm running a social media campaign and other admin/marketing tasks, and working on a for-profit business idea. Gotta love the college life!!

A house painting business can offer a very good income even during poor economic times. To succeed one must have a business plan. In most cases, house painting is not a favorite chore. Most home owners appreciate a nicely painted house but painting is not something they enjoy.

A house painting business is a very profitable home business. One reason is the fact that it is a real business and the business can be run out of your home. Secondly, the business is easily worked part or full time depending upon the owner’s schedule. House painting contractors often work as painters for years before taking the step of going into business for themselves. Through the years I’ve helped more then a few house painters to start their own successful businesses. A smart young person will learn the trade from an established painting contractor by working for a time as a house painter. As soon as he or she is comfortable with the trade, there is little reason to work for someone else.

To start a painting business, you cannot be afraid of hard work. Most people who go into business for themselves picture themselves as managers over multiple work crews. There is nothing wrong with this approach but I’ve learned that a smarter approach, especially during poor economic times is to work solo. With a good work ethic, a one-man business can prove to be most profitable. To make it in business, one needs a good daily schedule and must be a dependable worker. The simple fact of the matter is that when working for yourself, there is no one to take up any slack. But being your own boss has many rewards

After one makes the commitment that is needed, they should seek help with a house painting business plan from someone with experience. If you do not seek proper guidance it is too easy to overspend in areas of tools and equipment or advertising. A good house painting business guide will provide direction in the area of what tools and equipment are really necessary as well as where to find appropriate and low cost advertising. The failure rate of new businesses can be very depressing and most times it is due to having no business plan.

    Thanks
