Outsourcing internet website designs and selling them as my own in my country

Is this a viable business? If I get customers and get their website design ideas then I act as a middleman and send them to a cheap company overseas (I assume India is the best place, havn't researched the idea yet). I won't deny that I will not be doing the sites myself but I won't bring it up.

Anyone got stories or advice to offer on dealing with cheap website design places overseas. Where are the best places to look to find these cheap design places.

I think more and more web dev businesses are doing some form of outsourcing. I got some outsourcing done on software. However, I found that it took a lot of work on my end as well. I know that Elance is the obvious site for outsourcing work but I haven't used it.

Not only is it a viable business, but I have seen several ebooks on the exact subject. So I would say go for it! AND keep the middleman part between you and your designer.

Just be sure to get a freelancer that knows what hes doing and does a quality job, try not to change to many freelancers randomly...your business reputation is on the line. That's the only drawback I see here. your reputation is at the hands of some random, cheap working dude in India.

Working with someone who suits your needs for the long term is very key, especially with website development. There are so many things that can be lost in translation (even if they are native to your language!)

But yes, ive run across many people who do this. In fact I think the majority of freelancers on project 4 hire. com do that.

This is a great idea. As others have noted, reputation is a top concern. Does anyone recommend any freelance site in particular?
